Reprogramming Bioremediation and Integrated Disease Management Coupled with Preventive Health Care in Zero Water Exchange Shrimp Culture system
Aquaculture generates considerable amount of wastes, consisting of metabolic by-products, residual food, faecal matter, and residues of prophylactic and therapeutic inputs, leading to the deterioration of water quality and disease outbreaks .The current approach to improving water quality in aquaculture is the application of microbes/enzymes to the ponds, known as ‘bioremediation. Probiotics and bioaugmentation are being increasingly used in aquaculture. In bioaugmentation useful microbes are inoculated and enriched to improve pond bottom for decreasing accumulated waste. They are being applied at field level at various stages based on a package of practice. In the proposed research programme .The information generated through this programme, employing tools in water and sediment chemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology shall pave way for reprogramming the existing process to develop a fool proof modified package of practice for evolving sustainable shrimp grow out systems
